23 Apr 2008 - Music Marathon

Music Marathon

On Wednesday 23rd April the children of Wickhambreaux Primary School completed a Music Marathon, by singing 26 songs in one hour.  The school is raising money for Children With Leukaemia, a charity which is important to our school as one of our pupils, Eleanor Slater, battled the illness and survived.  Eleanor, now fully recovered, joined in with her peers to sing a selection of pop songs, nursery rhymes, theme tunes and hymns – all chosen by the pupils.  Eleanor’s Mum, Mrs Slater, also gave an extremely interesting talk to the whole school about the disease.

Singing 26 songs in one go is a real achievement for the children.  They have been raising money since before the Easter break, and will be rewarded with certificates and prizes.    Half of all the money raised will go to the school’s newly established Scholarship Fund.  From September, the school hopes to pay for the instrumental tuition of one or possibly two of our gifted and talented musicians.

Music is thriving at Wickhambreaux with plenty of groups and ensembles taking place every day.  The Music Marathon was a real success with the children singing their hearts out.  The school hall was decorated with Union Jack flags and balloons, adding to the party atmosphere.  It was great fun for everyone.
