30 Mar 2005 - Suspected bomb in Wickhambreaux
The Bomb That Never Was
The Easter holidays proved to be very exciting for those who live in Wickhambreaux, when a member of Class 3 found a suspected bomb in his back garden. Here is his account of the day:
'It was a lovely sunny day when I started digging a trench. I heard a thud, I got rid of the dirt and saw a round metal thing. I went to Emma, my neighbour, and told her about it. She came and looked at it. Adrian and Terry looked at it and said it was a bomb! Terry went in and phoned the police. He came out with the man who looked at it and came back with a worried look on his face. Soon three other policemen came. The Bomb Disposal Squad came and dug it up. I was very excited, my mum was very annoyed as she thought she'd lose the Sunday lunch. Then the bomb disposal men came down the garden with a pot.'
Thankfully the bomb turned out to be a pot, so a total evacuation of the village was unnecessary!
