About Littlebourne

Littlebourne is the largest of the villages in our local community, with a population of around ?000 inhabitants. Lying between the Little Stour and Canterbury, it is set in pretty scenery and woodland. There are oast houses, a water mill and a fully restored tithe barn which holds several craft fairs each year.
The 13th century church of St Vincent sits well back from the road in the centre of a fine collection of trees, including several large yews. The church is thought to have been founded by the monks of St. Augustine's Abbey, and contains an ancient wall painting depicting St. Christopher, patron saint of travellers.
In the early 1800's the North Aisle of this church actually collapsed and when reconstructed, was not built to the same width of the original. This would have resulted in the North Aisle no longer being as large as the original, which probably when it was first built, matched the South Aisle. The Chancel is particularly attractive with some nice stained glass in a large number of lancet windows.
